Ilinca Sandu, a pupil in the 9th grade at the "Petru Rares" National College of Piatra Neamt secured the gold medal at the International Astronomy & Space Science Olympiad (IASSO) for juniors, told Agerpres.
Teacher Grigoruta Oniciuc, the pupil's advisor and the college's director, stated on Monday that Ilinca Sandu secured the absolute first position, with the highest score of the competition, the gold medal, the best score in the planetarium test and the best score in the theoretical test.
"We believe that these results confirm the presence of an astronomy and astrophysics school at the "Petru Rares" National College, oriented towards the real performance proven in the relevant international competitions. It is one of the best results obtained by a Neamt origin pupil at international competitions held in the last period," teacher Grigoruta Oniciuc stated.
The International Astronomy & Space Science Olympiad (IASSO) for juniors took place between October 31 and November 7, 2022, in Campulung Moldovenesc and Suceava.
