IMM Romania backs the proposal of the Employers' Federation of Labor Importers (PIFM) regarding the need to increase the quota of foreign workers for 2026 to 150,000 new work permits, the organization announced on Friday.
The Employers' Federation of Labor Importers of Romania (PIFMR) sent, in a Thursday's press release for AGERPRES, the need to adjust the quota of foreign workers for 2026, depending on the real market demand and the introduction of flexible mechanisms, as essential steps to maintain Romania's competitiveness and the continuity of economic activities.
"This position reflects the current realities of the Romanian labor market and responds to the acute need for labor felt in numerous economic fields: construction, HoReCa, transport, agriculture and services. In 2025, the quota established by the Government was 100,000 workers, but the real demand significantly exceeded this limit: over 230,000 applications for employment permits were submitted by October, according to the General Inspectorate for Immigration," said the representatives of IMM Romania in a press release issued on Friday.
According to the employers' organization, a larger quota of work permits is not only a necessary measure to cover the labor deficit, but also a strategic decision to maintain investments, economic competitiveness and the sustainability of the fiscal and pension system.
"IMM Romania supports the simplification and digitalization of administrative procedures for issuing work permits and visas, so as to reduce processing time and avoid the loss of labor to other states and reaffirms its commitment to supporting pragmatic measures that contribute to the stability and development of the business environment, as well as to the sustainable integration of foreign workers into the Romanian economy," the release added.
