Immigration Inspectorate: 4,534 Ukrainians have applied for asylum since the outbreak of the war

Immigration police have issued or reissued, since the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine and until December 9, 217,243 permits for beneficiaries of temporary protection on Romanian territory, and 4,534 Ukrainian citizens have requested asylum in our country.

According to a press release of the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI) sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday, in December alone, 583 permits were issued/reissued, following requests submitted by Ukrainian citizens who benefit from this status.

At the same time, since the beginning of the conflict, 4,534 Ukrainian citizens have requested asylum in Romania, but no new requests were registered in December.

The people who submitted such requests were hosted in the six regional procedure and accommodation centres of the General Inspectorate for Immigration, the same source shows.

At this moment, the accommodation capacity in regional centres is 19.9%.
