The inauguration of the Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in Bucharest illustrates the growing importance of Romania's relations with the countries of the Indo-Pacific region, stated, on Tuesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminita Odobescu, in a joint press statement with her counterpart Ali Sabry, who is visiting Bucharest.
The diplomatic mission will be inaugurated on Tuesday, in the presence of the two officials.
"We welcome the decision of the Government of Sri Lanka to open an embassy in Romania. The decision is proof of the good bilateral collaboration in multiple fields, especially in those in which there has been an upward trend in recent years, such as Work, Education, Trade , Science and Culture," said the head of Romanian diplomacy.
uminita Odobescu and Ali Sabry signed the first cooperation program in the fields of Education, Sciences, Culture, Mass Media, Youth and Sports between the Governments of Romania and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

The people are very welcoming, very hospitable and it is a great advantage for us to have human contact. I think this is the foundation of our relations and gives us confidence that these things will leads to an even greater collaboration between our two nations," Foreign minister Sabry said.
According to him, the opening of the embassy is "testimony" to the importance of the bilateral relationship.
"The most important moment of the visit is the signing of the collaboration program. It will provide a framework for extensive cooperation and reflects our common commitment. We have changed our economy towards stabilization and crisis management in 2022. Romania and Sri Lanka have strategic places on the map. Romania is in the Danube region and we discussed the synergies and the way to complement each other and the advantages we would have if we promote our cooperation using this geostrategic position," said the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister.
