The Minister of Education and Research, Daniel David, on Wednesday stated that the presence of the Police and Gendarmerie will be increased around the schools that received threatening messages, after a second such message was sent to schools in Bucharest and seven counties.

"The message is very serious, that's why I'm convinced that the authorities will do their duty and will also give an example to others in the society who think that they can play with such messages, no matter if it's just a game or a serious message. No one should think that if they send an email from an address that seems difficult to identify, they will get away with it. (...) I know that the authorities are doing their duty. We are in contact with the Ministry of Interior. The educational process must proceed normally, with that dose of responsible concern," the minister told Digi 24 private television channel.

Asked if he had requested additional security in the schools that received the threat, Daniel David replied: "Yes, in our discussions with the Ministry of the Interior we were told that in the area of the schools that received such messages, the presence of gendarmes and the police will be increased."

According to the Minister, the second threatening message was sent to schools in seven counties.

In his opinion, the attitude must be one of "responsible concern", not panic.

The Minister of Education and Research also said that schools have been instructed to be "more vigilant", including by applying the Internal Order Regulation, and that principals and headmasters, where they feel that they need to discuss it with students and parents, should do so.

A new threat message regarding a supposedly planned attack was sent on Wednesday morning, by email, to several schools in Bucharest and around the country, the Romanian Police announced.
