In reaction to Deputy Prime Minister Dragos Anastasiu's announcement that he is resigning office, the General Union of Romanian Industrialists UGIR-1903 asked the government to urgently revise the entire team that was under the coordination of the outgoing official, and also conduct a thorough assessment of all the other members of the current Executive that "managed to devise the worst solutions for 'saving the economy' - solutions that will fail to bring the necessary money to the state budget in the short term, and in the medium and long term will trigger the worst ever labor migration flow to Western Europe."
As the industrialists' umbrella organization said in a release, "We ask the Romanian Government to turn to the true experts in order to get the country out of this crisis that can bring us to the status of sovereign 'junk' rating. We don't need an entrepreneur who comes to defend himself in front of the public opinion after admitting in court that he bribed the tax authority inspectors."
UGIR-1903 notes that Dragos Anastasiu took everyone aback with an "incredibly hypocritical" speech, through which he defended himself "in defiance of everyone and of justice", explaining that the reason why the spotlight was turned on him is just because the Executive has taken the necessary measures to reduce the budget deficit.
"Dragos Anastasiu is a landmark character. Touted as an expert, he couldn't even prove a true understanding of the economic strategies for saving Romania, and in addition he showed us that he has no limits in terms of demagoguery, hypocrisy and brazen violation of the law, which he is oblivious to while everyone else is obliged to respect it," the release states, with the umbrella organisation stressing that a businessman "who used illegal methods in his own dealings" and now comes to steer Romania and "cut" from the others can cause nothing but harm.
Deputy Prime Minister Dragos Anastasiu announced on Sunday afternoon that he is stepping down from office, after an old corruption scandal involving him and his company Touring Europabus Romania resurfaced last week - with Anastasiu admitting that he had bribed for years a tax inspector who uncovered irregularities at his companies, including unpaid taxes on employee salaries.
