INS: Arrivals in tourist accomodation units up 4.9 pct to 8.707 million in 10 months

Arrivals registered in the tourist accommodation units in the first ten months of 2018 totalled 8.707 million, up 4.9 per cent against the same period of last year, with overnight stays accounting for 19.569 million, up 4.2 per cent, the National Institute of Statistics informs on Tuesday.

Of the total number of arrivals, arrivals of Romanian tourists in the tourist accommodation units accounted for 77.9 per cent, while foreign tourists accounted for 22.1 per cent. 

In respect to arrivals of foreign tourists in the tourist accommodation units, the largest share belonged to those from Europe (74.6 per cent of the total number of foreign tourists), 85.6 per cent of them coming from EU countries. 

Of the total number of overnight stays, overnight stays of Romanians represented 81.3 per cent while foreigners accounted for 18.7 per cent. In respect to the foreign tourists's overnight stays, the largest share belonged to the European tourists (73.1 per cent of the total number of foreign tourists), 84.1 per cent of them coming from EU countries. 

The average stage in January through October was of 2.3 days for the Romanian tourists and 1.9 days for the foreign tourists, with the net occupancy rate standing at 32.8 per cent, up 0.9 per cent against the same period of 2017. 

Arrivals of foreign visitors in Romania, as recorded at the border checkpoints, numbered 8.026 million persons, up 6.3 per cent from the first ten months last year. 

Border crossings of Romanian citizens to spend time abroad accounted for 14,679,900, up 6.3 percent against the first 10 months of 2017. 

In August 2018, arrivals in the tourist accommodation units increased compared with the same months of the previous year, by 9.2 per cent, up to 1.849 million, with overnight stays increasing by 9.1 per cent, up to almost 4.951 million. 

Of the total number of arrivals, arrivals of Romanians represented 82.2 per cent, while foreigners represented 17.8 per cent, similar figures with the ones recorded in August 2017. 

By foreigners arrivals in Romania, the European tourists topped the statistics (75.6 per cent of the foreign tourists), while overnight stays represented 12.7 per cent. 

In respect to foreigners' overnight stays (4,950,900), European tourists accounted the most, representing 87.3 of the total in August 2018, while foreigners' overnight stays accounted for 12.7 per cent. 

By overnight stays of foreign tourists, the European tourists topped the statistics (72.7 per cent of the total foreign tourists), while 85.7 per cent of them came from EU countries. 

The average stay in August 2018 accounted for 2.8 days for the Romanians and 1.9 days for the foreign tourists. 

The net occupancy rate in August 2018 accounted for 51.2 per cent of the total number of accommodation units, up 3.4 per cent against August 2017.

The highest occupancy rates were recorded in August in hotels (62.5 per cent), tourist villas (48.3 per cent), bungalows (46.5 percent), holiday villages (40.2 per cent), hostels (39.4 per cent), pupils and pre-school children camps (35.0 per cent) and boarding houses (33.4 per cent). 

Arrivals of foreign tourists in Romania, as recorded at the border checkpoints in August 2018, stood at 1.477 million, up 10.4 per cent compared with August 2017. Most of the foreign visitors come from European countries (92.5 per cent). Of the total arrivals of foreign tourists in Romania, 44.9 per cent come from EU states. Among the EU states, most arrivals were recorded from Bulgaria (24.9 per cent), Hungary (23.9 per cent), Germany (10.2 per cent), Italy (7.6 per cent), Poland (6.8 per cent), France (4.1 per cent) and the United Kingdom (3.6 per cent). 

Departures of Romanians visiting foreign countries, as recorded at the border checkpoints, accounted for 2,884,700 in August 2018, up 13.7 per cent against August 2017. 

The road passenger transportation means were the most used for departures abroad, representing 75.9 per cent of the total number of departures.
