Under a decision adopted at Wednesday's government meeting, the Institute of Educational Sciences has been designated as PISA 2025 National Center, and students studying in Hungarian-language schools in Romania will be able to have their knowledge assessed based on a special sample within the Program for International Student Assessment - PISA, a release informs.
According to the release, the government has adopted a decision amending the legislation on Romania's participation in the Program for International Student Assessment - PISA 2025, including the international options developed by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
"The regulatory act designates the Institute of Educational Sciences as PISA 2025 National Center, in accordance with the latest relevant amendments and additions to the Pre-university Education Law No. 198/2023. It also introduces the possibility for students studying in Hungarian-language schools in Romania to have their knowledge assessed based on a special sample within the Program for International Student Assessment - PISA initiated by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development," the document notes.
The adoption of this decision allows the implementation of the national option regarding the oversampling of Romania students who study in Hungarian, so that this category can also undergo PISA assessments.
"The oversampling of students from Hungarian-language schools was decided in order to ensure for this category as well the 5% representative sample required by the PISA technical standards for participation in the program. According to the National Institute of Statistics, these students account for 4.8%, while the shares of students who learn in other languages are less than 0.1%," the Executive mentions.
