Interim president Ilie Bolojan said on Saturday that Romania welcomes the release of the six Israeli hostages held captive in Gaza, one of whom has dual Israeli-Romanian citizenship, Agerpres reports.

"Romania welcomes the release of six Israeli hostages, held in brutal captivity in Gaza, one of whom has dual Israeli-Romanian citizenship. On this occasion we also reaffirm our support for the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and the release of the hostages, as well as for the urgent provision of humanitarian aid to the population of Gaza," wrote interim president Bolojan in a message on social networks.

At the same time, the interim president mentioned that Romania would like to thank the United States, Qatar, Israel and Egypt for their efforts to free the hostages.

The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas handed over two more Israeli hostages to the Red Cross in Gaza on Saturday morning and the ceremony was broadcast live, dpa reports.

Two men, Tal Shoham and Avera Mengistu, were handed over in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah, and three other hostages were later handed over, while the sixth is to be released later on Saturday.
