INSP organised several workshops with providers from community care and primary healthcare on recognising cases of domestic violence and using risk assessment tools at the family level.

According to a press release from INSP sent to Agerpres on Tuesday, community nurses from Tulcea, Alba and Sibiu counties, a family medicine practice from Dambovita county, and two emergency centres from Neamt and Dolj counties were involved in the activities, agerpres reports.

INSP carries out, together with the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy and under the coordination of the Ministry of Health, activities within the project "CIRCE - Joint Action on Transfer of Best Practices in Primary Care".

The project aims to transfer and implement best practices in the field at the level of primary healthcare.

"We believe that through a concerted effort between authorities, the academic environment, and civil society, a safe and equitable social space for women and girls can be built," the INSP release emphasised.

Initiated by the United Nations in 1999, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women highlights the importance of implementing effective policies for prevention, protection, and support of victims.

"Violence against women manifests in multiple forms - physical, psychological, sexual, or economic - and can occur within the family, the community, or online. It affects the health, safety, and rights of victims, contributing to the maintenance of gender inequalities and limiting women's participation in society," INSP noted.

The aim of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is to raise awareness of the impact of gender-based violence, support women's rights, encourage the adoption of effective preventive measures and policies, and promote solidarity and community support for victims.

According to INSP, the phenomenon is often underreported due to fear, stigma, and lack of access to effective protection mechanisms.

In Romania, during the first six months of this year, over 61,000 cases of domestic violence were reported, and 41 women lost their lives. In urban areas, 46.2% of women reported experiencing violence from a partner, while 45.5% experienced psychological violence, according to data from the Romanian General Police Inspectorate.
