Interior Minister Carmen Dan participated on Friday in the investment ceremony of Catalin Ionita, as the new chief of the Romanian Police and of his deputy Florin Dragnea.

"I introduced the new inspector of the Romanian Police, Catalin Ionita, and deputy inspector general, whom he will team up with, Florin Dragnea. It was a discussion through which I conveyed the assumption of a mission aimed at the profound reform which they both have taken on to fulfill with the support of the MAI [Interior Ministry] leadership. What has happened is a difficult situation, but I have stated that it had sprung from the Romanian Police. (...) We took on, in a first instance, an analysis of the problems of the system and, in one month at the most, a measure plan with assumed deadlines. The Police needs a profound reform," Carmen Dan stated.

When asked about the reasons for which she requested to Bogdan Despescu to step down from office, she mentioned the bad communication and management of the problem in case of the policeman charged with pedophilia, adding that a position is to be identified for the quaestor.

About his responsibility on a managerial line, an aspect which led to Despescu's dismissal, the Interior Minister said that firstly the report, which the Control Body will drawn up, should be completed.

Interior Minister Carmen Dan held a working meeting at the General Inspectorate of Romanian Police (IGPR) headquarters with the entire management of the Romanian Police. On this occasion, the new chief of the Romanian Police, Quaestor Catalion Ionita and the new Deputy Inspector General , Chief Commissioner Florin Dragnea attended the meeting.
