IntMin Predoiu: Lacks of any kind are not an excuse for not doing your duty
Minister of Interior Catalin Predoiu on Tuesday told the heads of law enforcement structures within the Ministry that lacks of any kind should not serve as an excuse for the employees to not do their job, told Agerpres.
According to a press release of the MAI, Catalin Predoiu called a videoconference meeting with the heads of law enforcement structures within the Ministry, at both the central and territorial level, to establish the priorities for the next period.
Participating in the videoconference are representatives of the Romanian Police, Gendarmeries, Border Police, General Inspectorate for Immigration, the General Operational Management Directorate, the General Anti-corruption Directorate, the General Directorate for Internal Protection, the National Anti-drug Agency, the National Agency against Human Trafficking.
The Minister thanked the participants for all the efforts made at the national level to ensure a public order and protection climate for the citizens, but drew attention on the need to adopt certain measures to eliminate the causes that led to such "very serious" incidents in which the MAI employees were involves, reads the same source.
"I ask for a new attitude at work, in carrying yout missions to the benefit of the citizens. You need to get more involved. So I urge you to regain your status that you deserve in the community. Lacks of any kind are not an excuse for you to not do your job in front of the citizens," said Predoiu, as quoted in the abovementioned press release.
The Minister of the Interior gave assurances that the assets of the MAI were mobilized to meet the priorities and build a new attitude towards work and the citizen.
"I am aware that there are many things to fix or improve in the MAI structures. We are already taking action in multiple directions. And I want to assure the citizens that we have mobilized the assets of the MAI to meet the priorities and build a new attitude towards work and the citizen. Some things can be done immediately, others require more time. But, with all the legitimacy of the function, I asked for immediate action and an increase in the quality of the professional act in all MAI structures. I will use all the administrative levers and legal powers I have to achieve these objectives," added Predoiu.
He asked the heads of all structures to pay maximum attention to comply with the priorities for the next period: preventing and combating drug and human trafficking, strengthening the fight against organized crime, combating tax evasion and smuggling, increasing the degree of safety on public roads.
At the same time, he requested involvement in the implementation of the National Framework Action Plan for School Safety, which was signed on Tuesday.
Predoiu drew attention to the need to strengthen the professional training of MAI employees, at all levels, with an emphasis on those in the operative area, recently employed or with a few years of experience, the same press release says.
During the discussions, the same source shows that the Secretary of State for Public Order and Safety, Bogdan Despescu, requested an increase in the level of mobilization of all operational staff and additional attention to citizen reports, asking for more exigency from the bosses to identify employees with problems behaviour that do not respect the rigors of the police profession.
Bogdan Despescu asked the managers of the central and county structures to constantly carry out analyzes on how to fulfill the missions in order to verify the efficiency of the adopted measures and the establishment of new ones, every time when it is necessary, the final objective being to increase the degree of safety of the citizen, it is also shown in the press release.
