IntMin Predoiu: Professionalism of Romanian firefighters has become a country brand

The professionalism of Romanian firefighters, their expertise, the way they organise themselves, their results have become a country brand and ambassadors of Romania to Europe and beyond, according to the message of Interior Minister Catalin Predoiu, on the occasion of the ceremony dedicated to the Romanian Military Firefighters Day, told Agerpres.

"As we all know, last year and this year Romanian firefighters were called to intervene in Greece, in France, to extinguish fires and save lives, within the European Civil Protection Mechanism. They also participated, together with the authorities of the Republic of Turkey, in extreme interventions, full of risk after the earthquakes earlier this year," said Predoiu.

He mentioned that firefighters have saved the lives of Romanians, but also the lives of citizens of other nations, proving the selflessness of the Romanian people.

"This is why I can say without any hesitation that this profession has become a European standard of quality and not only, a standard in the world. This is why I can say that the profession of firefighter is practiced in Romania by first-rate professionals, professionals who inspire and teach others from other parts of the world to practice this profession with results," Predoiu added.

The Interior Minister added that what for many of us - sacrifice, risk, extreme challenges - are sensational, out of the ordinary events, for firefighters it means everyday life, mission by mission.

"I recently had the opportunity to talk to firefighters at their bedside after the accident in Crevedia and once again I saw their humanism, their solidarity, their love for this profession, their determination to stay on the front line, to come back again to do their job in the service of their fellow human beings," the minister said, according to a press release from the Ministry of Interior.
