President Klaus Iohannis posted on Thursday on his Facebook page a video about the children-dedicated event organized the day before at the Cotroceni Palace, accompanied by his well-wishes to the young.
"Celebrating Children's Day together with the little athletes from Special Olympics Romania. Many happy returns to all the children!", the head of the state wrote on Facebook on Thursday.
President Klaus Iohannis on Wednesday had 75 children as guests at the Cotroceni Palace, most of them Special Olympics athletes with intellectual disability or hearing impairment.
The children participated in games in the palace courtyard and Klaus Iohannis handed them medals.
The Presidential Administration said the event was aimed at raising sensitivity and awareness of the large number of children with special needs whose talents and abilities can only be turned to good account in an inclusive society. The head of the state wants to draw attention to the need to change existing attitudes towards people with disabilities and the relevant policies.
"Each child can be a champion through effort and perseverance, and sport is the ideal setting for personal development. To emphasize this idea, the event also includes sports activities for children with and without disabilities," the Presidential Administration said.
The event was organized at the Cotroceni Palace with the support of the Special Olympics Romania Foundation and Romania's National Council on Disability.
