President Klaus Iohannis stressed on Tuesday the need to accelerate the anti-COVID-19 vaccination campaign, noting that mayors and other local authorities, regardless of political affiliation, must be actively involved.
"Obviously, the campaign is going well. The vaccination marathons were successful, but in order to continue the vaccination level we must bring the vaccine closer to the people. The complete reopening of all socio-economic sectors depends on the success of vaccinating as many Romanians as possible and building post-pandemic Romania. Mayors and other local authorities, regardless of political affiliation, must be actively involved in the vaccination campaign. The success we have had so far is predominantly in the urban environment, so it is important to act more intensely in rural areas, as access there to a vaccination center is often more difficult," President Iohannis said in a statement at the Cotroceni Palace.
The head of state had a working meeting with Prime Minister Florin Citu and members of the Government on the vaccination campaign against COVID-19.
