Iohannis' message on Firefighters' Day: Romania actively participates in process of creating European Emergency Response Capacity

Romania actively participates in the process of creating the European Emergency Response Capacity and perfecting the national integrated management mechanism regarding international assistance, as well as in the international assistance missions carried out on the basis of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, President Klaus Iohannis declared on Friday on Firefighters' Day.

His message was sent by presidential adviser Ion Oprisor.

"Today we celebrate the courage and dedication of the Romanian firefighters, who risk their lives to save their fellow beings, and we honor the sacrifice of all those who perished during disaster interventions, fighting flames or following serious accidents. In recent years, the number of emergency situations is increasing, which implies that the interventions for their management have become more frequent", the head of state showed.

In this context, Iohannis argued, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, a component of the National Emergency Management System and part of the protection forces of the National Security System, continuously adapted to the new realities and managed to maintain its at high level the ability to answer.

At the same time, he recalled some of the missions of the Romanian firefighters abroad.

"The military firefighters have shown professionalism, courage and dedication in carrying out international missions, executed in particularly difficult conditions and with a high degree of risk. The participation this year of the Romanian firefighters in the missions supporting the Greek and French authorities in the prevention and extinguishing the fires was particularly appreciated, highlighting Romania's solidarity with the two nations," said the president.

He highlighted that in recent years, important investments have been made in technology and infrastructure, "which correspond to the most demanding safety requirements during interventions and training and training of personnel".

"I am convinced that the provision of modern intervention hardware will continue, so that the services offered to those in difficulty are maintained at the highest standards," the head of state said, conveying to the firefighters that society is grateful to them for their sacrifices.
