Iohannis promulgates law under which former presidents benefit for free from a working cabinet

President Klaus Iohannis signed on Monday a decree regarding the promulgation of the law on granting rights to persons who held the presidential office of the Romanian state, offering them a space, free of charge, if used as a working cabinet, near the protocol residence. 

According to a release of the Presidential Administration, the head of state had signed the decree for the promulgation of the Law regarding the approval of the Government Emergency Ordinance (OUG) No.57/2017 for the amendment and addition of the article 2 of the Law No.406/2001 on granting rights to persons who held the capacity of head of the Romanian state. 

The former heads of state have the right "to use, free of charge, a protocol housing and a space in order to organise a working cabinet, comprised of a councilor and a secretary positions, both assigned to the residency ," the law stipulates. 

The normative act also stipulates that former presidents have the right to use, free of charge, for a period of maximum 12 months, a housing used as a residence, with as surface of maximum 200 square meters, during the capital repair works to the housing assigned as residence." 

On Monday also, the head of state signed the decrees for the promulgation of the Law regarding the approval of the OUG No.23/2017 for the amendment of the Social Dialogue Law No.62/2011 and the article 11 paragraph (2) letter c) of the Law No.248/2013 regarding the organization and functioning of the Economic and Social Council and the Law on the approval of the OUG No. 36/2017 for the amendment and addition to the Government Ordinance No. 15/2013 regarding the regulation of some fiscal-budgetary measures for the state budget to bear the amounts related to financial corrections applied for deviations from compliance with the legislation in the field of public procurement for the Environment 2007-2013 Sectoral Operational Programme.
