The Charge d'Affaires ad interim of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Bucharest, Javad Karimi, was called on Tuesday to the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) headquarters "to be presented with Romania's profound concerns regarding the conduct of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the context of the current crisis in the wider Middle East region."
According to a MAE press release, the calling in of the Iranian diplomat was ordered by Foreign Affairs Minister Oana Toiu, agerpres reports.
"The Romanian side conveyed Romania's firm protest against the military attacks carried out by the regime in Tehran against states in the Middle East, as well as against the recent developments in Cyprus, underscoring the profoundly negative impact on regional security and stability, including maritime security. Romania makes a firm call for the urgent de-escalation of tensions and for the protection of civilians, with emphasis placed on the priority Romania gives to the safety of its own citizens in the conflict area," the release said.
Furthermore, the Romanian side conveyed the deep concern for the violation of the sovereignty of states in the region that have been the target of Iran's indiscriminate attacks and Romania's full solidarity with those countries, the quoted source highlighted.
At the same time, Romania's constant request, together with its European partners, was conveyed, calling on Iran to act responsibly with regard to its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes and to refrain from destabilising activities in the region, the MAE release also mentioned.
