Irina Begu wins UniCredit Iasi Open WTA tournament

Romanian tennis player Irina Begu won the UniCredit Iasi Open (WTA 250) tournament, equipped with total prizes amounting to 239,212 euros, on Sunday, after defeating Swiss Jil Teichmann in the final, 6-0, 7-5.

Irina Begu (34 years old, 110 WTA), seeded no. 7, sealed her victory after one hour and 33 minutes of playing.

Irina Begu is now 4-1 in head-to-head matches with Teichmann (28 years old, 102 WTA), seeded no. 6, the Romanian having won her last four matches, most recently in 2023, again in Iasi, in the quarterfinals, 1-6, 6-4, 6-0.

Begu, who played the final in Iasi in 2023 (WTA 125), has added to her list of sixth WTA titles of her career, after those in Tashkent (2012), Seoul (2015), Florianopolis (2016), Bucharest (2017) and Palermo (2022).

Irina Begu won a cheque of 31,565 euros and 250 WTA points.

Teichmann won a cheque of 18,685 euros and 163 WTA points.

In the doubles final, the pair Veronika Erjavec (Slovenia)/Panna Udvardy (Hungary) defeated the pair Maria Lourdes Carle (Argentina)/Simona Waltert (Switzerland) 7-5, 6-3.
