Chairman of the Romanian Senate's Culture Committee Cristian Niculescu-Tagarlas and head of the Moldovan Parliament's Culture Committee Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei signed on Tuesday a joint declaration of cooperation on the creation of the Romania - Moldova Visual Archive.
The signing of the declaration was the final act of a joint meeting of the two committees organized on the sidelines of the event "From the Flower Bridge to the Press Museum - Pages of History" organized by the Senate's Culture Committee in partnership with the National News Agency AGERPRES and the Republic of Moldova's State News Agency MOLDPRES.
"Recalling the deep historical, cultural and linguistic ties between the two states, recognizing the importance of protecting, researching and valorizing the joint cultural heritage, encouraging institutional cooperation between Romania and the Republic of Moldova in the field of culture and collective memory, we express our shared commitment to supporting and promoting the creation of a joint Romania - Republic of Moldova Visual Archive as a strategic project for preserving, turning digital and rendering accessible visual content relevant to our common history and identity," the document states.
The declaration stipulates that "the archive will contribute to preserving the collective memory of the landmark moments in the bilateral relationship, promoting democratic, European values and press freedom, supporting academic and journalistic research in the Romanian cultural space on both banks of the Prut River."
"We commit to actively collaborate with the relevant institutions in the two countries, national news agencies, public archives, museums and cultural institutes included, with a view to supporting this initiative both at legislative level and through cultural and educational partnerships," the adopted declaration also states.
