Justice Minister Tudorel Toader said on Monday evening in a telephone interview at the Romania TV private station that he had requested that the National Union of Notaries Public in Romania carry out checks at two notaries in Sibiu about the house lost in court by President Klaus Iohannis.

Tudorel Toader said that, in his opinion, the notary who made Iohannis owner in 1999 committed a fraud.

"I have requested that the Union of Notaries conduct checks into the notarial activity in Sibiu. It is about two notaries or two notary offices. The one who drew up the deed in 1999 that made the president owner, deed that was later invalidated by the court and declared void. What happens behind this irregularity? Was it a fraud, use of fraud or an abuse? I think so. But 20 years have passed since then and the deeds of that notary, if they had a criminal character, the limitation period for criminal liability certainly ended. On the other hand, there were checks at the notary office that suspended the notarial procedure and the question asked by the minister of finance why has the procedure been suspended and how can the president be obliged by judicial means to pay the amount owed to the state?, the answer I believe is the following: I did not see the control report, surely tomorrow I will have it. I enquired and I understood the following: the notary who had this succession procedure was to ask the Land Measurement Office to deregister the former record on behalf of the president and the asset, the house, would have returned to the state," said Tudorel Toader.

The justice minister explained that the second notary suspended the notarial procedure at the request of two individuals who claim to be the owners of that property.

"By defending these two alleged owners, the notary suspended the debate, the notarial procedure, and went to the court, for the court could see who owns the property: those who have intervened now and claim to be owners, and if not the house goes into the state's ownership," said Tudorel Toader.
