Justice Minister: Ilie Serbuc, suspected of killing a 12-year-old girl, brought to Romania

Ilie Marcel Serbuc, suspected of killing a 12-year-old girl and hiding her body in a sofa's trunk, arrived in Romania on Tuesday, Justice Minister Alina Gorghiu announced.

"The plane bringing back to Romania defendant Ilie Marcel Serbuc, accused of murdering a 12-year-old girl, has landed. The defendant had been remanded in custody. According to the procedure, he will be presented to the court for confirmation of this measure. It remains to be seen what the court will decide and, further on, continue with the criminal proceedings, which are not public. No person is above the law. No one can escape accountability to the national justice system. This is normality in a democratic state," Alina Gorghiu wrote on her Facebook page.

She assured that the Ministry of Justice will continue to make every legal effort to bring fugitives back to Romania.

"International judicial cooperation in criminal matters is essential to fight crime. I thank all Romanian and Dutch authorities for their good cooperation," said Gorghiu.

On August 16, the Ministry of Justice announced that the Amsterdam Court had definitively ordered the transfer of Ilie Marcel Serbuc.

On June 3, Police Station No 16 was notified by the owner of an apartment in the capital that he had found a plastic bag in the sofa's trunk having a rotten smell.

Initially, it was thought that the deceased was a woman, but an expertise carried out at forensic institute established that the deceased was a minor aged 12, the identification having taken place by comparing the genetic profile of the corpse with the genetic profile of the girl's father.

The girl's biological father is the one who reported the girl missing in early May.

The girl was living with her mother and her boyfriend, Ilie Marcel Serbuc, in an apartment in Berceni, District 4 of the capital.

A recording between the mother and her boyfriend appeared in the public space, in which Marcel Serbuc told her that he did not want to hurt the girl, but had a spontaneous conflict with her, pushed her and the girl hit her head against the bathtub.

After the murder, the mother and her boyfriend allegedly left the country, the woman being traced in Catalonia - Spain, after being confronted by her co-workers at a farm. The woman later came alone to Romania to be questioned by investigators.

Instead, her boyfriend was issued an European arrest warrant and detained in the Netherlands, but he denied being sent to Romania.
