The decrease in the bonus for managing European funds from 50% to 40% of the salary is not steep and still represents a decent incentive, labour Minister Petre-Florin Manole stated on Thursday, specifying which incomes will decrease from August 1 in the budgetary sector.

"Incomes decrease when we talk about the bonus for harmful conditions. There was a maximum ceiling of 1,500 lei. Not everyone received 1,500 lei more to their salary through that bonus. Now there is only a bonus of 300 lei. Nobody gets more, nobody gets less. Here the budgetary impact is somewhere over 600 million lei. It is part of the deficit management. There is also a 10% decrease in the bonus for the management of European funds, but here some things need to be said. On the one hand, there is indeed a decrease from 50% to 40%, but I would not say that it is a steep decrease. It is still a decent incentive, one gets 40% of the salary more. On the other hand, we need to understand that these people who receive this money bring tens and hundreds of millions of European funds to our country, money that is found in everyone's well-being," Manole told Antena 3 public television broadcaster.

Asked if the salaries of the public sector employees will decrease, the minister of labour mentioned that "I have no Government task, as they say technically, for this."

Regarding possible layoffs in the budgetary area, Manole pointed out: "It is a discussion, but I would not say layoffs, because it is not the case to think about the size of certain areas of the budgetary apparatus."

"I can give you an example: in the central office of the Ministry of Labour there are 494 employees and 141 vacant positions. To be honest, even if we wanted to, we have no reason to touch those 494 positions, because there are people who work in already undersised departments," the head of Labour also said.
