President Nicusor Dan stated on Tuesday, in Timisoara, that in his opinion, there is a need for layoffs from the public sector, but there are also areas where the number of employees needs to be increased.
"It is obvious that if we look at the entire administrative system, central and local, there are significant areas where layoffs from the system are needed. Just as there are areas where more people are needed. There is, for example, the police responsible for public security. And there are several other such examples. So we need to balance the system. (...) It is necessary for people to leave the system in certain central and local institutions", stated Nicusor Dan.
He mentioned the fact that in addition to the personnel in the public system, there is a need for spending cuts in other segments, such as goods and services, phasing of investments.
"I am sure that, in the coalition, a balance will be found so that we have a common decision assumed", said the president.
The head of state added that there is also a need to review the single salary law, because many corrections have been made and there are very large discrepancies between institutions.
As to the percentage of reduction in public-sector personnel, Nicusor Dan opined that for the local administration, the discussion in the Coalition will continue for a few more weeks, because there are differences of opinion that also come from the fact that the administration in different localities is very different.
"Some have their services included in the city hall apparatus, others do not, some have formed companies, others do not. And then, for the measure to be fair, a little more time for discussion will be needed", also President Nicusor Dan added.
