Loans to non-government sector increase 0.8 percent in December 2024

At end-December 2024, loans to non-government sector granted by credit institutions increased 0.8 percent (0.5 percent in real terms) from November 2024 to RON 421,475.7 million, according to the data the National Bank of Romania (BNR) released on Monday.

RON-denominated loans, representing 70.1 percent of total volume of loans to non-government sector, grew by 0.6 percent, whilst foreign currency-denominated loans, holding 29.9 percent of total loans to non-government sector, advanced 1.2 percent when expressed in RON (1.3 percent when expressed in EUR).

In year-on-year comparison, loans to non-government sector advanced 8.9 percent (3.6 percent in real terms), on the back of the 11.5 percent increase in RON-denominated loans (6.1 percent in real terms) and the 3.3 percent rise in foreign currency-denominated loans expressed in RON (similar evolution when expressed in EUR).

At end-December 2024, credit to general government granted by credit institutions increased 7.7 percent from November 2024, to RON 250,059.5 million. In year-on-year comparison, this indicator grew by 27.3 percent (21.0 percent in real terms).

At end-December 2024, broad money (M3) amounted to RON 741,796.2 million, up 2.9 percent (2.6 percent in real terms) month on month. In year-on-year comparison, broad money rose by 11.3 percent (5.9 percent in real terms).
