Loans to non-government sector, up 0.5% in April 2025

At end-April 2025, loans to non-government sector granted by credit institutions increased 0.5 percent (0.4 percent in real terms) from March 2025 to RON 425,484.7 million, the National Bank of Romania (BNR) informs in a press release.


RON-denominated loans, representing 70.2 percent of total volume of loans to non-government sector, grew by 0.7 percent, whilst foreign currency-denominated loans, holding 29.8 percent of total loans to non-government sector, declined by 0.1 percent when expressed in RON (similar evolution when expressed in EUR).

In year-on-year comparison, loans to non-government sector advanced 8.7 percent (3.7 percent in real terms), on the back of the 10.9 percent increase in RON-denominated loans (5.8 percent in real terms) and the 3.7 percent rise in foreign currency-denominated loans expressed in RON (similar evolution when expressed in EUR).

At end-April 2025, credit to general government granted by credit institutions increased 0.4 percent from March 2025, to RON 251,724.9 million. In year-on-year comparison, this indicator grew by 11.6 percent (6.5 percent in real terms).

At end-April 2025, broad money (M3) amounted to RON 743,248.1 million, up 0.5 percent (0.4 percent in real terms1) month on month. In year-on-year comparison, broad money rose by 7.9 percent (2.9 percent in real terms).
