President Nicusor Dan congratulated on Monday the locally elected officials confirmed by citizens' votes on Sunday.
"Congratulations and success to the locally elected officials confirmed by yesterday's citizen vote. It is a basic rule of democracy: citizens are always right and they express their opinions through voting," the head of state wrote on his Facebook page.
Nicusor Dan also congratulated Ciprian Ciucu on his election as General Mayor of the Capital and wished him success.
"Congratulations and success to Ciprian Ciucu. A complex city, with longstanding issues and a complex relationship with the other state authorities. Bucharest residents have chosen a mayor, we must now give him the means to govern the city. The implementation of last year's referendum is essential: the distribution of taxes and duties to Bucharest residents should be at the General Council level, not Parliament and all authorisations should be with the general mayor, not the districts, in order to ensure a single responsibility for urban planning," the President mentioned.
The head of state underscored that "it was a democratic exercise carried out responsibly by the coalition parties."
"Important stakes lie ahead: the budget for 2026, the final eight months of the PNRR [the National Recovery and Resilience Plan], the implementation of the SAFE programme, the accession to the OECD [the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development]. I am confident that responsibility will continue," Nicusor Dan concluded.
