Oradea Airport and German airline Lufthansa officially inaugurated on Tuesday the Oradea - Munich service with three regular flights per week to one of the largest air hubs in Europe.

"This is perhaps the most important outward connection for Bihor County residents, because Germany is Romania's No. 1 partner from an economic point of view. There is a strong Romanian community in the area of Bavaria. We want this partnership to be long-term," declared in the opening County Council president Mircea Malan.

He was accompanied at the event by Germany's vice-consul to Timisoara Siegfried Geilhausen, Lufthansa Group General Manager for Romania, Moldova and Bulgaria Monica Dobrutchi, and Oradea mayor Florin Birta.

The flights will be operated by Lufthansa Group's regional subsidiary Lufthansa CityLine, with 90-seat Economy and Business class CRJ 900 Bombardiers.

The flights are scheduled for Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.

According to the Bihor County Council president, the service is provided under a contract signed on April 23, 2025 for a period of three years, and is operated under a public service obligation regime.

Vice-consul Siegfried Geilhausen said that the inaugural Oradea - Munich flight serves as a bridge between communities, cultures and opportunities, meant to open the horizon to new possibilities, creating tourist and economic bonds.

In her turn, General Manager Monica Dobrutchi specified that "Lufthansa has the beautiful mission of connecting people, cultures, civilizations and above all, economies," and went on to remark that "thanks to the flight that links Oradea to Munich - one of the largest airports in Europe - and further, to 170 destinations, Oradea residents will be able to travel for both business and tourism."

Oradea thus became the sixth Romanian city served by Lufthansa, alongside Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Sibiu and Iasi.
