Romania is ranked, at regional and global level, among the most involved supporters of Francophonie values, being one of the main supporters of the International Organization of Francophonie and its institutions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Thursday.

An event dedicated to the International Day of Francophonie, celebrated on Thursday, under the slogan "I educate myself, therefore I act", was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) and a series of partner institutions, on which occasion the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emil Hurezeanu, pointed out the essential role of education in forming involved and responsible generations, who can capitalize on the opportunities associated with technological advances and manage their specific challenges, the cited source specifies. At the same time, Minister Hurezeanu showed that the role of education in sustainable development and managing climate challenges remains essential.

According to him, investment in French-language education remains one of Romania's major priorities at the level of Francophonie, our country being in second place worldwide in terms of the number of universities and research institutions affiliated with the University Agency of Francophonie.

In the over 110 French-speaking university programs, students and young researchers from Romania and all French-speaking states study, which constitutes one of our country's substantial contributions to academic and scientific Francophonie, with a real impact on educational mobility and access of young French-speaking people to the labor market, the MAE press release informs.

Also, on this occasion, Minister Hurezeanu presented decorations conferred by the President of Romania to personalities and institutions in appreciation for important results in the field of popularizing Francophonie in Romania and for promoting Romania's image in the French-speaking area:

* The Order of "Merit for Education" in the rank of Knight - to Prof. Maria Niculescu PhD, former director for Economic and Digital Francophonie within the International Organization of La Francophonie;

* The Order of "Cultural Merit" in the rank of Commander - to the French Institute in Romania;
