The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI), through the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) as a programme component operator, will sign a partnership agreement on Friday with the Swiss Air Rescue Service - REGA, aimed at strengthening Romania's response capacity in the area of emergency situations.

According to the MAI, this partnership targets the implementation of Component 3 called "Air rescue and disaster preparedness" and is financed under the support measure of the Second Swiss Contribution for Romania to the selected member states of the European Union.

Thus, the DSU in partnership with the General Aviation Inspectorate (IGAv) of the MAI, the Inspectorate General for Emergency Situations (IGSU) and the REGA Foundation will implement the project.

The Swiss experts will provide specialised training for IGAv pilots in advanced mountain rescue techniques and low-altitude and night flying, strengthening the national air intervention capacity. The DSU and the IGSU will initiate measures to improve the legislative framework on volunteering in emergency situations and will launch new campaigns to increase civic involvement and reinforce the link between civil society and professional structures.
