Mandatory private pension plans report assets of RON 179.6 billion in August 2025

Mandatory private pension plans had assets worth RON 179.6 billion at the end of August 2025, up 21% year-on-year, according to statistics with the Financial Oversight Authority (ASF).

As much as 94% of the investments of privately managed pension plans were made in Romanian assets, with most of them being denominated in lei (RON). A large share of the Romanian instruments is represented by government bonds or shares listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), according to Agerpres.

The contributions collected in August 2025 were worth RON 1.91 billion, while the average contribution stood at RON 415.

At the end of August, government bonds held the largest share of assets, at RON 118.22 billion, which is 65.8%. These are followed by shares, at RON 44.4 billion (24.7%), and corporate bonds, at RON 7.3 billion (4.1% of total assets).

In August 2025, mandatory private pension plans had 8,401,901 contributors.

The following pension plans are active under Pillar II: Metropolitan Life, Aripi, AZT Viitorul tau, BCR, BRD, NN and Vital.
