The event show called "Mary Stuart" directed by Andrei Serban, will be presented by the "I. L. Caragiale" National Theatre of Bucharest (TNB) on 15 October within the Kielce International Theatre Festival, in Poland, as part of "Gra z Kantorem" / "Playing with Kantor" programme.

According to a TNB release sent to Agerpres, the production represents Romania's contribution to the Romania-Poland Cultural Season 2024-2025.

The Kielce tour is supported by Romania's Ministry of Culture.

The "Gra z Kantorem" / "Playing with Kantor" project is an artistic and research initiative launched in 2018 by Cricoteka - the Center of Documentation of the Art of Tadeusz Kantor in Krakow, and since 2023, it has taken the form of a festival. The project explores the reception of Tadeusz Kantor's work and its impact on contemporary theater and visual arts, presenting it as a living source of inspiration for new generations of experimental artists worldwide.

This year's edition focuses on performing arts from Romania and is organised by Cricoteka together with the Romanian Cultural Institute in Warsaw.

The play "Mary Stuart", based on Robert Icke's text adapted from Friedrich Schiller, highlights one of the most famous and tragic conflicts in royal history: the battle for the throne - and, ultimately, for life - between Queen Elizabeth I of England and her cousin Mary Stuart of Scotland (portrayed alternately by Ofelia Popii and Raluca Aprodu, with roles assigned at the start of each performance), the presentation revealed.

The cast of the production is made up of Ofelia Popii, Raluca Aprodu, Mihai Calin, Marius Bodochi, Emilian Oprea, Ciprian Nicula, Mihai Calota, Florin Calbajos, Conrad Mericoffer and Stefan Mihai. The set design is signed by Helmut Sturmer and costumes by Corina Gramosteanu.

"Mary Stuart" received seven nominations at the UNITER Awards and won the Theatre Award at the 2025 Radio Romania Cultural Gala through actress Raluca Aprodu for her role as Mary Stuart. In September, the production directed by Andrei Serban opened the 10th edition of the Gathering of Romanian National Theatres in Chisinau.

Moreover, it is also part of the official selection of the 2025 National Theatre Festival, with two performances scheduled for 25 and 26 October.
