Peripatetic Connections / Residencies in Motion invites artists to propose a research topic that can be explored through travel, in a context where each applicant has the freedom to choose the duration, location, and focus of their individual research.

The project, implemented by MATCA artspace through the Silver Screen Association, is co-funded by the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) through the Cantemir Programme - a funding programme for cultural projects aimed at international audiences.

According to a press release from the ICR sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday, proposals are expected by August 11 at 6:00 PM, via email at [email protected] with the subject line Peripatetic Connections. Eligible applicants are artists residing in Romania or the Republic of Moldova who wish to travel for research purposes to one or more European countries for a minimum of five days.

Three artists will be selected from Romania and the Republic of Moldova. The budget remains the same even in the case of collaborative applications submitted as a single contribution. Selected participants will be connected with cultural organizations abroad, depending on their chosen destination.

Each selected artist will independently determine the conditions of their travel and how they manage their allocated budget - on the condition that the proposed trip is connected to the project's overall theme.

Following the mobility period, each artist will produce a work to be showcased in a group exhibition in Brno, the Czech Republic, at the artist-run space Cejla (https://cejla.cz/). The exhibition will also feature several other artists from Romania and Moldova. The gross honorarium for this mobility, including the production of the final work, is 7,000 lei.

This year's open call is part of Peripatetic Connections, a project that aims to support artistic research and cultural mobility in Central and Eastern Europe by exploring themes such as censorship, freedom of expression, and the role of art in relation to these phenomena. Through critical reflection and physical movement, artists are invited to examine the relationship between freedom, expression, and current socio-political constraints.

MATCA artspace is an independent platform initiated and curated by three visual artists — Alexandra Mocan, Alexandru Muraru, and Matei Tosa - based in Cluj-Napoca, active since early 2017.
