Median cable barrier mounted in a first in Romania

In a first for Romania, a 2-km cable barrier was mounted on Saturday on the median line of national road DN2, in the area of Afumati, the National Road Infrastructure Management Corporation announced in a release. 

According to the cited source, this traffic safety hardware is experimental and is being monitored, and the solution will be extended to other national roads. 

"This solution is being implemented in order to substantially reduce the number of head-on collisions on busy two-lane national road sectors. This type of safety solution, which had been installed so far on the road sides, has shown its efficiency in cases where the vehicles veer off the travel direction and for safely taking up the shock in the event of a collision," the release states.
