MEP Iuliu Winkler (UDMR - Democratic Union of Hungarians of Romania, EPP - European People's Party) on Wednesday stated, in Deva, that the result obtained by the UDMR in the recent elections is the best in the last 20 years and thanked the citizens for the vote of confidence which the Union obtained on June 9.
"We had extremely difficult areas such as Satu Mare or Targu-Mures, where we kept the positions of mayor, we kept the four counties in Transylvania that remained green on the political map, so we continue to lead the four counties, Covasna, Harghita, Mures and Satu Mare. We won Odorheiul Secuiesc with an extraordinary good result. That's why my first thought is to thank the voters, who decided to support us in a percentage much higher than in recent years," Winkler said.
According to him, through the vote, the electorate gave a message both to Bucharest and to Brussels, that when the elections are very important, the Hungarian community "gathers around the UDMR, and the UDMR is the one that represents the interests of the Hungarian community in Romania".
"Obviously, this message is one of friendship and collaboration both for Bucharest and for Brussels," pointed out Iuliu Winkler.
At the same time, Iuliu Winkler wanted to thank the voters from the Romanian community who voted for UDMR in these elections, stating that both he and his colleagues are honored by these votes.
"I think this is due to the fact that we managed a better mobilization than the general mobilization in the country, which was not easy at all, as well as the votes we received from the voters from the majority community. In Deva, Hunedoara, but also in Maramures, in Resita, in Timisoara or in Brasov, where we are in minority organizations, we certainly benefited from Romanian votes. I in Hunedoara County, my colleagues, are honored by these votes, because this means that they are voters, members of the Romanian community, who observe our conduct, our work, our hardship", he said.
