PNL MEP Siegfried Muresan believes that the PSD should not return to government, arguing that Romania needs a "credible" Cabinet when it commits to continuing the "good" measures taken by Prime Minister Bolojan over the past year.

"Everything that has happened in recent weeks confirms one thing: PSD should not return to government. The statements and actions of PSD members show that they cannot be trusted to continue the responsible governance of the past year. With the effort and trust of Romanians, the Bolojan Government has managed to reduce the country's budget deficit by 28 billion lei in the first six months of the year, compared with the period of wasteful spending under the Ciolacu Government in the first part of 2025," Muresan wrote on Facebook on Thursday, agerpres reports.

According to him, 28 billion lei is equivalent to approximately 230 kilometres of motorway, 1,800 modern nurseries or eight regional hospitals.

"Continuing responsible governance, without waste, is the only guarantee for Romania's sustainable development in the coming years and for maintaining an investment budget, given that from next year we will no longer have PNRR funds. The measures that have put us in a better position than a year ago were harshly criticised by PSD, which also initiated and voted for the no-confidence motion against the Bolojan Government. Therefore, PSD has zero credibility when it says it will continue reforms and will not return to wasteful spending," the MEP said.

In his view, Romania needs a "credible" Government when it commits to continuing the "good" measures taken by Prime Minister Bolojan over the past year.

"We need a Government that will continue to cut waste and reform the state, continue to attract non-reimbursable EU cohesion funds, an area in which the Bolojan Government has achieved record results over the past year, and ensure that PNRR reforms are irreversible and that PNRR investments are completed on time," Siegfried Muresan said.
