MEP Dan Nica announced on Tuesday that Romania could attract billions through the new European framework for medicine safety which provides for equitable access to medicine for all patients in the European Union and security of supply for those considered essential to the healthcare systems.
According to him, through the new framework, shortages of antibiotics and cancer medicines shall be avoided and there will be a support for increased production in the member states, agerpres reports.
"This framework brings dedicated European investments after 2027, including for Romania, common acquisitions at EU level - savings of up to 20 percent for essential medicines, European coordination of stockpiles in order to avoid shortages of antibiotics and cancer drugs, support for increased production in member states. The benefits for our country - a sector with 22 medicine factories , which can attract new funding and create thousand of jobs, fast access to EU funding (for example a first tranche worth 25 million EUR has already been approved for supply security), reduced risks of shortages and access to medicines at more affordable prices for patients. Europe must place people's health first - more production in the EU, fewer shortages and timely treatment for all," Dan Nica conveyed, as quoted in a release.
Dan Nica, the leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Delegation in the European Parliament underscored that the new framework represents a strategic opportunity for Romania that already has an important industrial base in the pharmaceutical area and can access significant European funds for the development of this sector.
