Transport Minister Felix Stroe on Friday morning dismissed from office Director General of the Metrorex Bucharest subway transport corporation and the corporation's director of operations Liviu Daniel Dinu, according agerpres.ro.
The minister also ordered a serious investigation into the subway.
The decision was taken after subway traffic got blocked on the Izvor-Politehnica-Grozavesti section on Friday morning because of a leaking drainage trap that had dropped off the ceiling and generated a short circuit.
"The reason is the lack of discipline that has persisted for many years at Metrorex. I mean here occupational discipline, discipline of service, the discipline that has to characterise the railways. The problem that caused this incident this morning is due to the fact that a big piece of plaster from the ceiling of the tunnel fell on the track and caused a short circuit. The problem is that this should not have happened, because that is the why there are plans for quarterly, half-yearly, annual maintenance work. I took this measure to dismiss the director general and the director of operations. (...) My mantra, the guiding principle in all my life has been zero tolerance to such manifestations," Stroe told Antena 3 private broadcaster.
He added that there are many problems at the subway and that a responsible involvement of the management is needed.
