Metrorex estimates losses of 181.83 mln lei in 2025, almost similar to those in 2024

Metrorex [the company operating the Bucharest Metro] estimates a loss of 180.83 million lei for the current year, down 0.21% compared to the preliminary loss in 2024, amounting to 181.21 million lei, although revenues from the metro passenger transport activity are scheduled to increase by 87.83%, both as a result of the increase in the price of a trip from 1.71 lei to 2.79 lei, but also of the increase in the number of passengers, according to the draft Government Decision on the approval of the company's 2025 income and expenditure budget posted on Monday on the website of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

"In the draft income and expenditure budget for 2025, as a financial management tool, the company proposes to ensure the financial resources necessary to fulfill its obligations to third parties, both in terms of size, on total income and expenses, and structurally, on each category of income and expenses and on each organizational link, the role of the budgeting process being to guide the activity of all sectors within the company towards the same objective: profitability, liquidity, risk reduction", reads the Substantiation Note accompanying the draft regulatory act.

Total revenues, amounting to 2.6 billion lei, are estimated to decrease in 2025 compared to those preliminary in 2024, by 18.78%, respectively by the amount of 601.83 million lei, from 3.2 billion lei (year 2024).

In structure, operating income has a share of 99.99%, and financial income has a share of 0.01% in total income.

Subsidy income, amounting to 873 million lei, is up by 0.32%, or 2.76 million lei compared to those preliminary on December 31, 2024, in the amount of 870.24 million lei.
