Migrants found at border in wooden boxes in van that was supposed to transport sanitary installations

Politia frontiera

Several migrants were discovered by authorities at the western Nadlac II border crossing point on Thursday night hidden in wooden boxes in a van that was supposed to be transporting sanitary installations to France.

The Romanian driver said he was transporting sanitary installations on the Romania-France route.

"On the basis of the risk profile, a thorough check of the vehicle was carried out and border guards discovered 12 foreign nationals inside the boxes in the cargo compartment. The persons in question were taken to the Border Police headquarters for investigation. During the checks, our colleagues established that the persons are Bangladeshi citizens, aged between 22 and 41 years, having legally entered Romania," Arad Border Police informed on Friday.

Also in the Nadlac area, two groups of people were detected travelling on foot towards Hungary during border drone-surveillance actions. These are 15 people from Pakistan, Iraq, Nepal and India, aged between 18 and 49.

In the first case, the Romanian driver is being investigated for migrant smuggling, while all foreigners caught in the van or in the field are being investigated for attempted fraudulent crossing of the state border.AGERPRES
