Sportswoman Mihaela Hogas, member of the CSM Corona Brasov, managed to qualify for the speed skating race at the Beijing Winter Olympics, to take place February 4 to 20.
"I am very happy that I managed to qualify Romania for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games. My childhood dream has come true. I am very excited and, although I knew I had a real chance, I still can't believe I did the 'impossible'. I want to thank my team, without them I would not have reached this point," said Mihaela Hogas on the club's website.
Mihaela Hogas has recently set two new national records: 1 min 16 sec 190/1000 in the 1,000 m event, a result obtained at the Salt Lake City World Cup, and 38 sec 370/1000 in the 500 m event, in the World Cup in Calgary, both competitions held in December 2021.
At the European Championships in Heerenveen (Netherlands), held earlier this year, Mihaela Hogas ranked 14th in the 500m and 15th in the 1,000m events.
Mihaela Hogas participated in the Lillehammer Youth Olympic Games in 2016, in the 500m events, mass start and team sprint, in which she won the bronze medal.
Romania will field at least 19 athletes in the Beijing Winter Olympics, and it is possible that this week it will receive four more spots from the international federations through redistribution, the head of the Romanian delegation, Florin Mica, told AGERPRES on Tuesday.
