Minister-delegate for European Affairs Victor Negrescu participated on Wednesday, upon the invitation of Portugal's Prime Minister Antonio Costa, in the 2017 "Web Summit", in Lisbon, context in which the Romanian official argued for common, inclusive solutions at European level, meant to strengthen the integration process within the EU.
According to a press release of the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE), during his intervention in the panel titled "Will Europe rise again?", the Romanian dignitary referred to the multiple challenges faced by the European project and to ways to turn these into opportunities for strengthening the EU.
The Minister-delegate underscored the need for enhanced communication regarding the achievements and benefits of the Union for the European citizens as well as the need for their deeper involvement in the reflection and decision-making process regarding Europe's future. At the same time, the Romanian official advocated for common, inclusive solutions at European level, meant to consolidate the integration process, with a focus on ensuring sustainable economic growth, job creation and the achievement of economic and social convergence within the EU.
The Minister also mentioned the importance of innovation and technology in developing efficient EU policies, highlighting Romania's potential in the digital and cyber security area at European level.
"Romania's potential in the digital industry must be upheld and capitalised on, especially that all the premises for success are there. We want to promote all of Romania's achievements in all its excellency domains, from the perspective of Romania taking over the Presidency of the European Union Council in the first semestre of 2019, and the IT industry is one of the fastest growing in the last years," the Minister-delegate pointed out.
Moreover, according to the release, Victor Negrescu met in Lisbon with the Portuguese Secretary of State for European Affairs Ana Paula Zacarias, the consultations reconfirming the great level of the bilateral relations and both parties' desire to diversify and deepen the Romanian-Portuguese partnership.
