The Government is prepared to manage any of the possible scenarios related to the development of Brexit negotiations, Romania's Minister-delegate for European Affairs Victor Negrescu stated on Wednesday at the expert debate called "Brexit, where to? Prospects of the UK's withdrawal from the European Union and the implications for Romania.", informs Agerpres.

According to a release of the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) sent to AGERPRES, the debate was organised by the MAE, through the Minister-delegate for European Affairs.

The event, hosted by the MAE, aimed at initiating an exchange of opinions in respect to the development of the negotiation process regarding the UK's withdrawal form the EU, the release mentions.

Victor Negrescu hailed the involvement of the academia and the associative environment in the public consultation process, and the provision of standpoints that would be integrated in the reflection process that is carried out at institutional level for substantiating Romania's Government actions in the context of Brexit.

"Romania must further use all the resources in order to manage the negotiation process regarding the withdrawal of the UK from the European Union at the level of citizens' expectations and in full agreement with its objectives in an European context. In this regard, these consultation processes, which I started ever since taking the mandate, play an important role and the discussions carried out with the partners of the academia and the associative environment have generated many consistent ideas and observations, which effectively complement the institutional approach," Negrescu stated.

Furthermore, he reviewed the stage of negotiations between the EU and the United Kingdom regarding Brexit, highlighting the significant progresses that have been recorded and stressing the necessity to intensify efforts in order to fully agree the withdrawal agreement.

"All of our efforts are channeled towards meeting the general objective of Romania and the European Union, namely concluding an agreement to ensure the orderly and predictable withdrawal of the UK. However, Romania's Government has a responsibility to be prepared for any of the negotiations' possible development scenarios. In this regard, I have reiterated the necessity to initiate some adequate measures in order to limit the impact of the UK's withdrawal over the Romanian citizens and the business milieu," Negrescu stated.
