Minister of Economy, Digital Transformation, Entrepreneurship and Tourism Radu Miruta declared on Friday in Brasov that he is working on a regulation that would establish clear criteria for companies that will participate in international fairs where Romania is promoted.

"Under my watch, Romania will no longer be promoted according to the old criteria, which relied on favoritism and the so-called 'beautiful eyes.' Until now, those funded by the Romanian state to attend fairs were not required to report their activities, and selection was often based simply on 'who sent the first e-mail.' I discovered that, within the ministry, unwanted e-mails were sometimes deleted and falsely claimed as never received. We have abolished this entire methodology and are drafting a ministerial order to establish a transparent formula - taking into account seniority, field of activity, number of tourists attracted, turnover, and even the history of past issues," said Radu Miruta.

The Minister of Tourism announced that he is working on a national tourism strategy, beginning with the clear definition of destinations.

"Tourism must be promoted, and the first step is a strategy. I have set up a working group to draft it, after which we will consult investors outside the ministry, so they can add consistency from their perspective. Without a destination, you only waste fuel driving in circles," he explained.

The minister added that, by year's end, the conditions for establishing a national Destination Management Organization (DMO) will be debated. He noted that only about 20 such organizations currently exist at local level - which is "extraordinarily few" - and stressed that it is the duty of local authorities to set them up. "Those who fail to do their job will lose funding," Miruta warned.

The minister emphasized the rapid launch of a public consultation guide through which €10 million can be accessed and invested in tourism infrastructure by mid-2026.
