Following the severe floods in the counties of Suceava and Neamt, Minister of European Investments and Projects Dragos Pislaru will activate the European RESTORE mechanism, created precisely for natural disaster occurrences - an initiative that will allow the rapid allocation of millions of euros in European money to the affected areas, the official said, agerpres reports.
"In my capacity as minister of European Investments and Projects, I will activate the European RESTORE mechanism created specifically for major natural disaster incidents (floods, fires or storms). It is the first time that this instrument will be used in Romania and it will allow us to quickly allocate millions of euros of European money to the affected areas to support the rebuilding of infrastructure, housing and small local businesses," Pislaru announced on Facebook on Saturday.
He added that the government will activate the European Union Solidarity Fund, through which Romania has the possibility to access hundreds of millions of euros for the reconstruction of the area, but this money will only come in a few months, as the process is lengthier.
Pislaru also announced that a new aid package will be approved by the government in the coming period, after the damage assessment is completed.
The government immediately allocated amounts of up to RON 30,000 per affected family and all the necessary relief and aid personnel - doctors and firefighters, plus ambulances and helicopters were deployed to the region.
The minister also thanked "the true heroes of the day - the rescuers and volunteers who sprang into action on the ground, even putting their own lives at risk to save those in danger."
