Minister of Health Alexandru Rafila visited Ion Iliescu at the "Agrippa Ionescu" Hospital, where the former president is hospitalised, offering words of encouragement and praising the "professional manner" in which he is being cared for, the Ministry of Health reported on Friday.

"Minister of Health Alexandru Rafila visited former President of Romania Ion Iliescu in hospital, conveying a message of encouragement and support. Professor Rafila praised the professional manner in which President Ion Iliescu is being cared for at the 'Prof. Dr. Agrippa Ionescu' Clinical Emergency Hospital and expressed his thanks to the medical staff," the ministry's release reads.
Former President Ion Iliescu is conscious, with stable cardiac function, and requires minimal respiratory assistance, the "Prof. Dr. Agrippa Ionescu" Hospital reported on Friday morning.
He remains hospitalised in the intensive care unit.
On 16 June, hospital representatives announced that Ion Iliescu is suffering from a pulmonary condition of oncological nature.
