Ministry of Energy initiates steps for elaborating national hydrogen strategy

The Ministry of Energy has initiated steps for elaborating the national strategy regarding the production of energy from hydrogen, in the context of Romania struggling with an energy crisis and the crisis caused by the war in Ukraine, said Constantin Stefan, secretary of state in the Ministry of Energy, according to a press release sent by the Romanian National Committee of the World Energy Council to AGERPRES on Thursday.

He was present at the conference titled "Market model in the area of electricity: functionality and possible amendments", organized on Wednesday by the Romanian National Committee of the World Energy Council (CNR-CME) and Electrica Furnizare, in partnership with the Romanian Power Suppliers Association (AFEER), the Federation of Associations of Energy Utilities Companies (ACUE), the Association of Electricity Producers (HENRO) and the Romanian National Institute for the Study of Energy Sources and Use (IRE). The conference took place in the context of the various crisis that had an impact on both the Romanian society in the last years, as well as in the electricity market sector.

Decision makers (Ministry of Energy and National Energy Regulatory Authority), operators from the energy sector (CEZ, ENEL, Electrica, Transelectrica), professional associations, as well as representatives of academia (Politehnica University of Bucharest) also took part in the event.

The speakers tackled aspects in regards to the current problems of the electricity market and the need to adapt in the conditions imposed by the increasing necessity of electricity, of objectives related to decarbonization of the electricity generating sector, the need to promote renewable sources along with the systems for storing energy, problems of the electricity distribution system, the arrival of virtual electric plants.

Three important challenges were noted for distribution operators: reducing own technological consumption, measurement of electricity, integration of energy producers and consumers to the electricity network (prosumers).
