Ministry of Finance borrows 1.097 billion lei from banks on Monday

The Ministry of Finance (MF) borrowed 1.097 billion lei from banks on Monday through two government bond issues, according to data published by the National Bank of Romania (BNR).

Thus, MF attracted 797 million lei from the first issue of benchmark government bonds, with a residual maturity of 29 months, at an average yield of 6.29% per year. The nominal value of the issue was 500 million lei and banks subscribed 1.042 billion lei.

An additional auction is scheduled for Tuesday, where the state wants to attract another 75 million lei at the yield set on Monday in this auction.

MF also attracted another 300 million lei on Monday through the second issue of benchmark government bonds with a residual maturity of 71 months at an average yield of 6.69% per annum. The amount of the issue was 200 million lei and banks subscribed 544.8 million lei. Through the additional auction held on Tuesday, the state wants to attract another 30 million lei at the established yield.

The Ministry of Finance (MF) has planned to borrow 6.2 billion lei from commercial banks in June 2024, to which 750 million lei can be added through additional non-competitive bidding sessions related to bond auctions.

The total amount of 6.95 billion lei is 1.06 billion lei higher than the 5.89 billion lei programmed in May 2024 and will be used to refinance the public debt and finance the state budget deficit.
