Fifteen Romanian citizens and their family members have been evacuated from Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs on Saturday.

''In the context of the intensification of armed attacks between the State of Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) states that, following the steps of the MAE Crisis Cell, activated on the night of June 12 to 13, 2025, by the minister of foreign affairs, which operates permanently 24/7, 15 Romanian citizens and their family members have been evacuated from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Turkey,'' a press release sent to AGERPRES states.

The 15 people were supported by the Romanian Embassy in Tehran, including by ensuring road transport, in order to enter the territory of the Republic of Turkey.

Subsequently, the Romanian Embassy in Ankara provided them with accommodation and transport to Istanbul, from where, with the support of the Consulate General of Romania, they were boarded on two Tarom Istanbul - Bucharest flights, arriving in the country on June 20 and June 21, respectively.

The MAE notes that these steps were possible through the good coordination of the three diplomatic/consular missions involved, namely the Romanian Embassy in Tehran, the Romanian Embassy in Ankara and the Romanian Consulate General in Istanbul.

The MAE, through the Romanian Embassy in Tehran, continues to pay attention to the requests for support from Romanian citizens who have notified their presence in the Islamic Republic of Iran, in order to identify the best solutions for their safe return to the country, depending on the development of the security situation.

The MAE Crisis Cell continues to coordinate both with the diplomatic missions/consular offices of Romania in the affected states, as well as with representatives of other EU member states.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates the recommendations addressed to Romanian citizens in this context (https://www.mae.ro/node/66881, https://www.mae.ro/node/66883) and the need to register their presence in the Islamic Republic of Iran and/or the State of Israel (https://www.mae.ro/node/66890).
