AGERPRES special correspondent Cristian Lupascu reports: Rectors from universities in the Republic of Moldova and Romania met on Thursday in Chisinau in the presence of Her Majesty Margareta, the Custodian of the Romanian Crown, and His Royal Highness Prince Radu.

The session was chaired by Emil Ceban, Rector of the Chisinau University of Medicine and Pharmacy and President of the Council of Rectors of the Republic of Moldova, and Sorin Cimpeanu, Rector of the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest and President of the National Council of Rectors of Romania.

Also attending were the Republic of Moldova's Minister of Education and Research, Dan Perciun, and Romania's Secretary of State in the Ministry of Education, Gigel Paraschiv.

"The collaboration between the rectors' councils has allowed us to explore and implement good practices from our Romanian colleagues in managing higher education institutions in the country and to promote academic excellence. This format gives us the opportunity to share best practices, promote joint research initiatives, and enrich each other through cultural and academic diversity. At the same time, our sustained dialogue can become a catalyst for educational policies that meet the needs and aspirations of young people on both sides of the Prut, supporting the Republic of Moldova's European path," said Emil Ceban, leader of the Moldovan rectors.

In hs turn, Sorin Cimpeanu, president of Romania's Council of Rectors, stated that Romania will invite the Republic of Moldova to participate in the world's largest higher education event, NAFSA 2026 Conference, to take place in Orlando, USA, offering the neighbouring country space within Romania's stand.

"The National Council of Rectors of Romania, with the agreement of all colleagues - and I thank you for that - has decided that the universities of the Republic of Moldova will be invited to Romania's stand, making it a joint Romania-Republic of Moldova stand," Cimpeanu said.

Prince Radu highlighted the role of higher education institutions in shaping new generations of students.

"Her Majesty and I have come to Chisinau for this symbolic as well as practical meeting point of Romania's higher education institutions. As a matter of fact, today's meeting is not only administrative and scientific; I believe it is also deeply spiritual and identity-focused. If we combine all the scientific and Romanian life fields represented here, this room embodies the full outline of Romania's present and future. The range of studies offered to the younger generation is so diverse - from military studies to humanities, exact sciences, and arts - as varied as global culture itself, and those you educate go on to impact every corner of the globe," His Royal Highness Prince Radu said.

Before the official opening of the joint session, the two council presidents, together with officials from the Romanian Royal House, planted a Liquidamber tree in the courtyard of the Chisinau University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
